How long are the lessons?

Individual lessons are ranging from 30, 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the skill, understanding and concentration level of each student.

What type of instrumental lessons do you offer?

We offer individual one-on-one lessons for students age 3 and up in all major orchestral instruments. We believe by children having individual lessons, teachers are able to pay more attention to each student, and it’s a more productive setting then group sessions.

What are the school hours?

Tuesday-Thursday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Monday/Friday: Closed


Can I choose the teacher for my child?

Yes, you can. As long as we think the teacher would be suitable for your child’s needs, and when the schedule allows.

What is the teacher's educational background?

We are the only institution in Queens that the teachers are selected by either Master’s or Ph. D graduates from the prestigious Juilliard School.

Do you offer instruments for students to use?

We provide grand pianos for most of classrooms for student’s use during class. We also offer the use of our other instruments for student’s first lesson, before they finalize on the size or type of instruments they decide to study.

Can I choose the day and time to come for a lesson?

Yes, we try our best to suit your schedule along with your preferred teacher. However, popular time slots fill in quickly; please book your lesson time early.

Do students have public performance opportunities?

Absolutely! We understand that one of the most important goals of music learning is the capability of performing in public, and sharing the beautiful music to the loved ones. We provide student concerts at least four times a year in world famous concert halls, such as the Steinway Hall in NYC, as well as Carnegie Hall, for a bigger stage experience.

How often do I take lessons?

Most of people choose once a week for their lessons. However, we can also accommodate students request for additional times per week. Please contact our school for schedules.

When can I start taking lessons?

Our Fall and Spring semesters typically run for 20 weeks, and 10 weeks for the Summer semester. Since most of the lessons are in a private one-on-one setting, students can choose to start their lessons at any point of the semester. 

What method of teaching does the faculty provide?

We incorporate a combination of European, Suzuki as well as the innovative methods from the world legendary Juilliard School, as we believe that all styles excel in different areas. We believe by blending the best methods provides for a faster and more satisfying learning process.

What is the process of getting enrolled?

Registration is on first come fist serve basis. You will need to fill out our school registration form in our office or at our website, and sign it. Bring the form along with the registration fee, tuition to our school in order to reserve your preferred time slot. 

Can I get a FREE introductory lesson to make sure I like the school?

Yes, you can! One of the high points of our school is that we try our best to make sure that each student will be studying with the most suitable teacher that would meet your individual needs. During this free introductory lesson, as a beginner, the teacher will introduce some basic instrumental learning, combined with simple music theory to have you “test the water”. For more advanced students, it is an opportunity for our teacher to evaluate your playing level. Call TODAY for a FREE trial class!

Does New York Music & Arts offer weekend lessons?

Yes, we do. We open on both Saturdays & Sundays for your convenience. 

What style of music can the teachers offer?

With our strong musical education & background, all of our teachers are versatile with variety of musical styles. From Classical, Jazz, to Pop and Rock & Roll. Music is a universal language!

What's is your private lesson cancellation policy?

NYMA required at least 24 hours advance notice if a student is not able to attend their scheduled lesson. Sick cancellation must be left on the school voice mail 24 hours prior to school opening. Same day cancellation will not be refunded or rescheduled. In the event of a teacher’s absence, NYMA will contact the student and arrange a makeup lessons for a future date. 

Do you offer makeup lessons if the student misses his/her lessons?

Yes. NYMA provides a make-up lesson only if the cancellation requirements are met. Make-up lessons will be scheduled according to the teacher’s availability and within 14 days of the missed lesson date. We allow up to 2 make-up lessons per semester, per student. NYMA is not required to make up any additional lessons after the maximum amount (2) has been reached. Please check our school policy for more details.

What types of payment do you accept?

NYMA accepts Cash, Check or Visa/Master Card. All checks should be made payable to “New York Music & Arts” by the first scheduled lessons. 

Is there a registration fee?

There is a one time, non-refundable registration fee per year for all students at the beginning of student’s enrollment.  Please call us for further details.

What if we decide to discontinue the session, do you offer a refund for new student?


Yes. NYMA requires 7 days notice prior to final class/lessons when discontinuing a program to be eligible for a refund. Registration and supply fees are non-refundable. All refunds will be given within 30 days in the form of check. Students who withdraw from NYMA and meet the 7 day notice requirement will receive refunds based on the following:

Weeks 1 through 4: New students receive a FULL refund for all remaining lessons paid for. Notice music be given by the end of the third lesson.

Week 5 through the end: There is no refund.

Unfortunately we do not offer refund for pre-registered returning students.


Do you offer any discount?

Yes.  For each family that you refer to NYMA that signs up for a full semester of lessons, One (1) free lesson will be given to you at the end of the semester as our way of saying thank you. 

Where is the school located?

NYMA Forest Hills: We are conveniently located in the heart of Forest Hills on Queens Boulevard, between 75th Avenue and 76th Road. Our school is on the second floor above Same Ash Music Store. You can take E or F to either 75th Avenue or Union Turnpike Station, and we are about 3 minutes walking from either station. Q 60 Bus also stops right in front of our building.
