Megan Atchley,
Violin
New York based violinist Megan
Atchley dedicated to creating
musical experiences that resonate
with her audiences aesthetically,
politically and bodily. She strives
to keep classical music connected to
lived experience through her actions
as a performer and teacher, as well
as her collaborations with
contemporary composers. Megan has
presented solo recitals throughout
New York State, performing
repertoire by Saariaho, Bartók,
Prokofiev, Schnittke, Gershwin, and
Stevie Wonder. She has also worked
with various NYC-based new music
ensembles including Wet Ink and
Anti-Social Music, performing in
venues such as the Bowery Ballroom,
Galapagos Art Space, and Issue
Project Room. Megan has collaborated
with composers from institutions
including New York University,
Manhattan School of Music, and
Cornell University.
In addition to maintaining teaching
studios with a wide range of ages
and abilities, Megan is also a
passionate feminist. She has
completed research on new music
through the lens of gender with Dr.
Suzanne Cusick and Dr. Marissa
Silverman at NYU. She recently
presented a lecture recital at the
2011 Feminist Theory and Music
Conference at ASU on the work of
Kaija Saariaho. Megan holds degrees
from Ithaca College and NYU
Steinhardt.
